There is no day like Mother’s Day to just relax, reflect on your own mother, and, if you’re a mother, reflect on your journey to motherhood! So far today has been such a wonderful, relaxing day! I am sitting here right now, wearing Dylan (we just got back from a short walk) because he is sound asleep and I just love watching him sleep comfortably snuggled up against me 🙂 I love my baby boy!
I am a mamma’s girl and I always have been, so though today is an especially meaningful day to me, it really has always been pretty important. I have usually tried to come up with a special mothers day gift for my mother (and in the recent years my mother-in-law as well – who I absolutely adore) which usually means combining inspirational mother/daughter songs, pictures, or both into a personalized gift. This year was the first year that this gift was centered around my child, their grandchild and that means I have now stepped into my mother’s shoes (and, I suppose, she has stepped into her mother’s yet again). I know I’m stating the obvious but I think it is both fun and important to stop every once in a while and really reflect on where you are in life so you don’t miss anything!
Anyway, This morning in our adult sunday school class, our teacher asked us to remember our fondest memory of our mothers and there were just too many to single out one specific memory. A reoccuring memory of my mother is watching her get ready in the evening for either my dad to get home from work or a date night on the weekend (in which case I was so excited for the babysitter to get there so I could talk her ear off and pretend to be her best friend even though she was a teenager and I wasn’t even close) and breathing in the MOST BEAUTIFUL woman in the world. I remember as she patiently listened to me talk about my day and answered question after question (I was probably the single most inquisitive child ever – “why mommy???” every two seconds). I remember feeling the love seeping out of her pores when she said good night as she walked out the door. But my FAVORITE part of these memories is just barely waking up to her purfume and gentle kiss when they got home and the love I felt surround me as I fell asleep.
