>First of all, thank you for the feedback and suggestions! I hope I haven’t been too over dramatic. I think I may have made things sound worse than they are; I’m overtired and, at times, overwhelmed but overall I really am having a wonderful time being a mommy! I just need to remember that Dylan is my first priority and sometimes other things will just not get done and that is ok!
I’ve had a bit of a break from the day to day this weekend as I left town with Dylan (on my own on a plane with our baby for the first time!) to go to my cousin’s shower, which is why I haven’t written anything for a few days. A break in routine only 🙂 which is actually leaving me more drained, but it’s a fun change in pace! Anyway, Dylan is a seasoned airplane traveler already as this was his third trip since he was born, but up until about two weeks ago, he’s always slept well in public which is what made this trip a little different.
As soon as we got to the airport Dylan was alert and excited. He looked around at everyone clearly taking EVERYTHING in from his little carrier as we made our way from the drop off area to our gate. It was so much fun to see his excitement and to watch him try to talk to people and grab things out of my hands! As I watched him and enjoyed his reactions, I started to wonder if he would settle down and fall asleep when we got on the plane.
We pre-boarded the plane and Dylan was in a great mood still but I could tell he was getting tired as we settled into our bulk-head middle seat :/ where I had to balance a pacifier, blanket, toy, teether, nursing cover, and baby because there was no seat in front of me to put my bag under. Two businessmen eventually sat on either side of me and I hoped Dylan wouldn’t kick them when I nursed him or when he started to get antsy in my lap. I had no idea, though what a wiggle worm he would be!
The two men on either side of us both had foreign accents (which I actually found comforting as far as nursing in between them since I know how accepted nursing is in other countries) and both of them were so understanding and helpful as far as grabbing things for me that were out of my reach and letting me use their tray tables for my drink AND the one man was WONDERFUL when Dylan punched my drink right into his arm (oops!). So all of this was great but about an hour in, I started to panic that he wouldn’t fall asleep for any part of the remaining 2 hours.
I could see how tired Dylan was, but everything was so new and exciting and he was clearly fighting off sleep. So I got up and went to the back of the plane to use the restroom and rock him in my Moby wrap, which helped him to settle down but when I went and sat down he was still so stimulated by the movie and all the people around us, so I put on my nursing cover, gave him a pacifier, and prayed! Well, guess what? IT WORKED! He slept until I got up to get off the plane! Yay!
So one more successful flight under our wing and I’m praying we have another successful trip back on Tuesday! Please pray for us! Until then I’m just trying to keep Dylan as rested as possible and also praying that he can settle back into his sleep schedule when we get home!
