Fitness Friday: Baby Naptime Workout

>TGIF!  The weekend is finally here!  Yes, even as a SAHM I still countdown the days to the weekend because it IS a job 🙂 of which I know everyone reading this is already aware.  I have done my best to fit in at least 30 minutes of exercise a day between household chores, errands, meetings/emails with our Realtor, time outside so we don’t go stir crazy, and of course blog time 😀

This morning, as I tried to catch up with my emails for the week, I saw my Real Simple update, 5 Ways to Get Out the Door Quicker, which is really oriented towards people going to a corporate job or work outside of the home, but that’s ok!  I opened the link to the article and the last time saving tip was:  Work Out Faster.  This is definitely something I can use so I thought I’d share:

Work Out Faster
Good news: There are ways to exercise in less time. First, studies indicate that you don’t need to stretch before exercising. Instead, just do a light warm-up—a few minutes of jogging before a run or five minutes of cardio before weight training. Second, you can get a quick, full-body workout without even leaving home. Try to do 15 repetitions each of crunches, push-ups, triceps dips (off a stable chair), squats, and lunges. Do each rep in a slow and controlled manner (count three seconds on the way up for a crunch and three seconds on the way down), and do three sets of each move. This will help strengthen your biggest muscles, including your abdominals, back, arms, and legs. See 15 Minutes and You’re Done: Workouts for efficient exercise routines for your abs, glutes, thighs, and more.

Time saved: 75 minutes each week.

So there you go!  A simple fitness solution for a common problem!  And here’s some motivation in case you’re thinking: “Why in the heck does Erika think Friday is a good day to talk about fitness?! Who’s really going to start a new fitness routine on a Friday?”  According to Doctor Oz (from the Dr. Oz show), the best day to start a diet is Saturday because you have no distractions from planning out your meals.  I agree with this idea and furthermore, I think if you can survive a new diet (and fitness should be part of any diet) through the weekend when there are events and date nights and a million reasons to cheat, you have a greater chance of success during the week!  So, I am giving you ideas to think about on Friday so you can put those ideas into action on Saturday!  You’re welcome *wink*

About me

Hello and welcome.  It’s been a while.  For Lent this year I decided to fast from the thing that took too much of my attention from what is truly important: Social Media.  Though there are countless amazing benefits to Social Media, after about a month offline so far, there are seemingly just as many negatives.  I never realized how much of my brain had been hijacked by it.  I’ve had so many revelations about how much easier it is to move forward when I’m not constantly reminded of the past.  But I still want to record my family as they grow at this ridiculous speed and, I’m realizing, so many of our family’s memories are here.  Those along with so many of the struggles and stages we’ve worked through.  Maybe in the midst of COVID19 isolation and my kids around me so often, I’m brought back to a time when they were too young for school and with me so often.  Writing here during that time helped make up for the limited adult conversation in my days and the overwhelm provided by my… little treasures 😉 My husband, fur babies, three fiesty kids, and I hereby extend an invitation to visit this little sneak peak into our life. We’re super flawed and broken and there aren’t too many dull moments around here.  And I promise it’s not always as magical as some of my golden hour, sun-soaked images would suggest.  There’s usually too much coffee in my system and we welcome all the prayers.  Come on over if you want to process with me.
