Mamma Monday: Angelic "A"

June 14, 2010 By Erika Zane

Today’s Mamma Monday is about my good friend “A”.  Like “M”, I have also only known her for a short time, but in that time I feel like I REALLY know her!  We met through a mom group at our church.  There are so many reasons for writing about her, only a few of which are: dedication to knowledge, stoicism, and reliability.

“A” is the kind of woman who needs to know, REALLY KNOW, everything about everything having to do with her daughter (and has since before she was born).  She, like me, had a natural water birth only she was brave enough to do it AT HOME.  From that point on, she has made every effort to make sure that her daughter is exposed to the most natural and healthy lifestyle possible.  AND anytime I have a question about sleep or shots or food she has a well researched, solid answer for me which, as a first time mom, I find so comforting!

Along with being the most knowledgeable first time mamma I know, she is also the most loyal, stoic woman I know!  She was recently diagnosed with a problem that was so severe that she could barely move without being in pain and was tired all the time, yet because of her extreme sense of dedication to the people she works with, she refused to stop working and didn’t complain about it.  I cannot imagine feeling the way she felt and going to work everyday… I can barely get myself out of bed if I have a headache!

Just in case you’re still not convinced that this is one AMAZING mamma… “A” is the kind of friend who babysat for Dylan for free when he was 8 weeks old on a Friday after a long week of childcare (both day and night… she night nannies too) so that my husband and I could get out for a date night.  She is the kind of friend who calls me every week to see if I want to hang out with her and some other mammas at the park, or pool, or the zoo.  She is the kind of friend who lets me vent when I am upset or nervous about something and knows when to just listen or to offer advice.  All of these things are also reasons she is going to be such a wonderful mom to her daughter “E”.  As “E” grows up and matures, she’s going to have such a beautiful, christ-centered, strong, intelligent mamma to guide her way and I’m so blessed to have her in my life!

“A” will be guest blogging about her birth story later this week, so please check back!

About me

Hello and welcome.  It’s been a while.  For Lent this year I decided to fast from the thing that took too much of my attention from what is truly important: Social Media.  Though there are countless amazing benefits to Social Media, after about a month offline so far, there are seemingly just as many negatives.  I never realized how much of my brain had been hijacked by it.  I’ve had so many revelations about how much easier it is to move forward when I’m not constantly reminded of the past.  But I still want to record my family as they grow at this ridiculous speed and, I’m realizing, so many of our family’s memories are here.  Those along with so many of the struggles and stages we’ve worked through.  Maybe in the midst of COVID19 isolation and my kids around me so often, I’m brought back to a time when they were too young for school and with me so often.  Writing here during that time helped make up for the limited adult conversation in my days and the overwhelm provided by my… little treasures 😉 My husband, fur babies, three fiesty kids, and I hereby extend an invitation to visit this little sneak peak into our life. We’re super flawed and broken and there aren’t too many dull moments around here.  And I promise it’s not always as magical as some of my golden hour, sun-soaked images would suggest.  There’s usually too much coffee in my system and we welcome all the prayers.  Come on over if you want to process with me.
