Chameleon

20 Jul

I learn more about myself everyday.

Since moving back east, I have noticed that some of the characteristics I picked up from living out west have remained, but some have ALREADY disappeared.  In other words, east coast Erika and “wild west” Erika are two different people.

Western Erika:

  • is friendly and even tempered (most of the time 🙂 )
  • absolutely wants to be a stay-at-home-mom
  • has stay-at-home-mom friends
  • cares about being eco friendly in any way she can which includes recycling many things, making her own baby food, and cloth diapering, but drives EVERYWHERE because she has to
  • goes for long walks to appreciate nature
  • came up with the title of this blog
East Coast Erika:
  • is still friendly and even tempered (most of the time 🙂 even though my buttons are pushed much more frequently)
  • is not so sure she wants to be a stay-at-home-mom
  • has NO stay-at-home-mom friends
  • walks and uses public transportation most of the time, lives in a VERY eco friendly building, recycles EVERYTHING (really, everything that can possibly be recycled can be recycled here), and still does cloth diapers
  • does go for nature walks… but walks more often
  • doesn’t like the title of this blog anymore 🙁 I think it maybe a little lame…

So there it is.  I’m not sure what this means for this blog.  It may mean I will be coming up with another blog or it may mean I’ll be going back to work and won’t be blogging as often or maybe I’ll snap out of it one day and realize this was just a stressed out phase.  I guess you’ll just have to wait and see, if you’re still reading my blog that is… many of the former readers have dropped off.   And I can’t  really blame them, I have not been very interesting lately.  So I’m sorry!  Thank you to those of you who still check in every once in a while.  One thing is for sure, once things have slowed down around here (and we FINALLY get the rest of our stuff… United Van Lines: I’m not happy!) I’ll have a lot more time than I do right now to write!

Hello East Coast Mama! 🙂 First of all, I love the name of your blog. I love the sentiment of mamas honoring each other, it is warm and welcoming and just all around wonderful 🙂

I think working or not working is up to you, and having just moved it has to be hard. Even if you have some friends in the area, it is hard to get used to a new place and everything. There have to be some stay at home moms out there, you just haven’t met them yet! I imagine you’ll eventually have a mix of friends who work and who stay home. If all your friends are FT working moms, it naturally would get you thinking about going back to work yourself. Give yourself some time to settle in before you make another big change!

A blog, any blog, has to be what you want it to be. It can have a schedule, a plan, a focus, or it can just be, and what that means will change from day to day, week to week, etc. Sit back, take a breath, enjoy your little guy, and write here or don’t write here, as the inspiration strikes 🙂

We miss you, Mama! Can’t wait to hear more about the new place, life, etc. Big hug, talk to you hopefully soon 🙂 -M&C

About me

Hello and welcome.  It’s been a while.  For Lent this year I decided to fast from the thing that took too much of my attention from what is truly important: Social Media.  Though there are countless amazing benefits to Social Media, after about a month offline so far, there are seemingly just as many negatives.  I never realized how much of my brain had been hijacked by it.  I’ve had so many revelations about how much easier it is to move forward when I’m not constantly reminded of the past.  But I still want to record my family as they grow at this ridiculous speed and, I’m realizing, so many of our family’s memories are here.  Those along with so many of the struggles and stages we’ve worked through.  Maybe in the midst of COVID19 isolation and my kids around me so often, I’m brought back to a time when they were too young for school and with me so often.  Writing here during that time helped make up for the limited adult conversation in my days and the overwhelm provided by my… little treasures 😉 My husband, fur babies, three fiesty kids, and I hereby extend an invitation to visit this little sneak peak into our life. We’re super flawed and broken and there aren’t too many dull moments around here.  And I promise it’s not always as magical as some of my golden hour, sun-soaked images would suggest.  There’s usually too much coffee in my system and we welcome all the prayers.  Come on over if you want to process with me.
