The last week or so has left me feeling a little off balance. I had a few days up front that left me fumbling until today.
Here is my week in review:
Thursday – woke up sick with the beginnings of a cold after a long night with a crying baby to the world’s WORST storm (EXTREMELY LOUD cracks of thunder that sent shivers down my spine, tree bending wind, and what sounded like golf ball size chunks of hail – though I’m sure it sounded worse than it actually was at the time) after which, the power went out and stayed out on a 90*F 100% humidity sort of day. I also spent the majority of the morning searching for dry ice so that the large quantity of baby food I JUST finished preparing and freezing wouldn’t go bad, and I found some.
Friday – woke up with a mild fever and a full blown cold after suffering through a long, hot, and sweaty night. We decided, since our power could be out all weekend, to venture up to the Philly area to visit Andy’s parents rather than having them come down to us, since that was the original plan for the weekend. Andy took a half day at work so he could help me get everything in the car and so we could get an earlier start. So this is where the story gets better (sense the irony?) – Andy threw out all the baby food because it had started (STARTED) to melt, we hit AWFUL traffic when we finally got on the road after we packed so much into the car we felt like we should be moving and of course after my teeny tiny melt down over the loss of the baby food.
Saturday – Started the day with about four hours of sleep under our belts because Dylan refused to sleep with us in the same room. So, after trying everything we could think of, Andy and I ended up sleeping half the night downstairs on the couches. OH AND Andy’s phone just completely died… as in, it decided to stop turning on altogether. Needless to say, we spent the rest of the day catching up on sleep, trying to find a cheap replacement phone on Craigslist (since of course neither of us is eligible for an upgrade right now and we typically decline insurance on our phones), and going out to buy an air mattress so we could let Dylan have the bedroom and still get some sleep.
Sunday – Surprise, surprise Dylan has a cold!!! Poor baby boy has snot ALL OVER his face and the sheets of his crib! 🙁 We stayed in Philly until about mid-day so we could have brunch with Andy’s grandma, and then hit the road… yup, you guessed it, more traffic! BUT, after a four hour trip that should have taken two hours, we got home to an apartment WITH power!!
Of course I left out a few positive things, or you wouldn’t feel bad for me! 😉 For instance, we brought our laundry because I had fallen behind and was unable to do it before we left on Friday, AND on Saturday Mamma IL did ALL OF IT before I woke up! In case I haven’t mentioned this before, I ADORE my mother-in-law. She really is a second mom to me and I am so blessed to have her!
Also, my husband was pretty amazing too. He came home early from his new job so Dylan and I wouldn’t be too uncomfortable in the muggy apartment AND so I wouldn’t have to get everything ready to go by myself. I know I focused on what he did wrong, but I was purposely being over-dramatic… sorry! 🙂
We had a tough weekend that took half of this week to recover from, but we got through it ok and we are still standing!
Here are some photos from the weekend:
