The First Night Away

August 11, 2010 By Erika Zane

11 Aug

Saturday night was our first night away from Dylan. We had a wedding to go to, so we dropped Dylan off at my parents around noon on Saturday and picked him up around the same time on Sunday. I thought I would be a mess and Dylan would be a disaster since he’s just beginning with the separation anxiety phase, but I was wrong! 🙂

I’ll start with what did go wrong. Dylan refused to take a bottle for the ENTIRE 24 hours I was gone. I’m not talking about formula, I did my best to pump and store up enough bottles for a 24 hour period and it’s not like he’s never taken a bottle of breast milk before, but I guess I’ve spoiled him over the last couple of months with exclusive bfing. Then, on top of that, Dylan has two new teeth coming in and is a little on the fussy side, so it was a sleepless night for everyone :/

As for what went well: thankfully he’s now seven months old and a pro at eating solids, so my mom and sister added the milk to his food and gave him water in his little no-spill cup and he was on pretty good behavior most of the time!

And what about me? I actually had a good time interacting with other adults! It was really nice to have time with my husband having fun without having to worry about getting home to the baby. My only concern was pumping so I wouldn’t lose my supply, but I didn’t have to worry about storing it since I’d have plenty of time to store up more when we got home, so I just pumped-n-dumped at the end of the night and in the morning!

Here’s a picture of our little family before we left:

On another note, I know the radio silence on my blog has been a little excessive the past week, but I plan to be on here a little more in the coming week. I’ve had to back off my online time to try and catch up around the house, but I am almost caught up (or at least my version of caught up :))!

What a beautiful picture! Congrats on a (overall) successful first night away. I’m sure your parents and sister must have loved it!!! I know my mom keeps reminding me that she’s always ready to steal Addison away, I just have to say the word. I’m planning on visiting my parents in Jersey sometime during the week of Aug 23. Maybe you guys can come up? I’ll call you when I know more details. Love your posts; keep ’em coming.

What a stylin’ family! You guys look great! Such a cute dress, and your hair, did you get it cut? So pretty!

I’m glad you all made it through the separation, I can’t believe he refused the bottle the entire time!!! Crazy boy! I’m glad it all worked out, though 🙂

Can’t wait to hear more from you! 🙂

About me

Hello and welcome.  It’s been a while.  For Lent this year I decided to fast from the thing that took too much of my attention from what is truly important: Social Media.  Though there are countless amazing benefits to Social Media, after about a month offline so far, there are seemingly just as many negatives.  I never realized how much of my brain had been hijacked by it.  I’ve had so many revelations about how much easier it is to move forward when I’m not constantly reminded of the past.  But I still want to record my family as they grow at this ridiculous speed and, I’m realizing, so many of our family’s memories are here.  Those along with so many of the struggles and stages we’ve worked through.  Maybe in the midst of COVID19 isolation and my kids around me so often, I’m brought back to a time when they were too young for school and with me so often.  Writing here during that time helped make up for the limited adult conversation in my days and the overwhelm provided by my… little treasures 😉 My husband, fur babies, three fiesty kids, and I hereby extend an invitation to visit this little sneak peak into our life. We’re super flawed and broken and there aren’t too many dull moments around here.  And I promise it’s not always as magical as some of my golden hour, sun-soaked images would suggest.  There’s usually too much coffee in my system and we welcome all the prayers.  Come on over if you want to process with me.
