I’m Thankful For Our Planet

November 28, 2011 By Erika Zane

I care about our planet and I feel guilty when I waste resources, but I don’t often really think about how blessed I am to have a planet that provides so much for me.

This weekend, a long holiday weekend all about thankfulness, I found a new “detergent” I had laying around called Eco Nuts (one of the many amazing gifts I received from the Haute Green Social Hour at BlogHer ’11).  I love it.  No one asked me to promote it.  I just wanted to share.  It made me feel good knowing that I could easily do a little more to be eco-conscious.

It’s amazing.  It is four-five little dried fruit shells that look like acorns.  You stick them in a little pouch, which is provided, and throw it in the wash with your clothes.  They are hypoallergenic, unscented, and completely biodegradable.  Those four-five shells will last approximately 10 loads.  So easy!

I try to be environmentally conscious through cloth diapering/using free & clear disposable diapers, recycling, reducing, and reusing.  I wash my hair every other day and I only wash clothing if it really needs it (ie: I don’t immediately wash the jeans I wore for five minutes to run out to the store).  All that being said, however, I also frequently use the cheaper, non-environmentally friendly disposable diaper while traveling, throw out something I could have recycled, and use a paper towel when I could use a wash cloth.  My point is, I’m not super eco-woman.  I do what I can, when I can.

So, if you’re like me and would like to find that one little product that could help you be a little more environmentally friendly, I recommend giving Eco Nuts a try. 🙂

Happy Belated Thanksgiving!

Those sound really interesting. I’ve never heard of them before, but they seem pretty hassle-free, so I’d give em’ a try.

They are really easy. I wasn’t sure how well they’d work, but I tried them out on some pee soaked sheets (diaper failure :)) and they worked great! I can’t believe dried fruit can do that.

About me

Hello and welcome.  It’s been a while.  For Lent this year I decided to fast from the thing that took too much of my attention from what is truly important: Social Media.  Though there are countless amazing benefits to Social Media, after about a month offline so far, there are seemingly just as many negatives.  I never realized how much of my brain had been hijacked by it.  I’ve had so many revelations about how much easier it is to move forward when I’m not constantly reminded of the past.  But I still want to record my family as they grow at this ridiculous speed and, I’m realizing, so many of our family’s memories are here.  Those along with so many of the struggles and stages we’ve worked through.  Maybe in the midst of COVID19 isolation and my kids around me so often, I’m brought back to a time when they were too young for school and with me so often.  Writing here during that time helped make up for the limited adult conversation in my days and the overwhelm provided by my… little treasures 😉 My husband, fur babies, three fiesty kids, and I hereby extend an invitation to visit this little sneak peak into our life. We’re super flawed and broken and there aren’t too many dull moments around here.  And I promise it’s not always as magical as some of my golden hour, sun-soaked images would suggest.  There’s usually too much coffee in my system and we welcome all the prayers.  Come on over if you want to process with me.
