Wordless Wednesday: Christmas Extravaganza

January 4, 2012 By Erika Zane

4 Jan

I wish we took more pictures than we did.  But we have what we have, I guess.

Little Man came down with a fever and somewhat severe cold the afternoon of Christmas Eve, so most of the pictures we took were from that morning and just a couple on Christmas morning, because LM wanted the camera.

All our local family came to us this year which was such a blessing.  Especially with a sick child!  I made chicken parm for dinner when my inlaws came over on Christmas Eve.  For Christmas, my mom took over the kitchen (no complaints here) and prepared an absolutely amazing roast beef, green bean casserole, and baked potato dinner.  Yum.

I’ll have to bug the grandparents and see if they have any more photos that they’d be willing to let me share.  My father-in-law is GREAT about taking photos and my father has a little bit of a photography background, so we should get some awesome shots in the next few weeks.

On a side note: Probably most of the really awesome, more artistic photos strewn throughout my blog and in the about me section are courtesy of my dad, in case you were wondering.  He’s taught me a little of what he knows over the years, but I haven’t really invested the time, so, though we’ve had a DSLR for almost three years, I’m not there yet.

Now our little helper can help shovel... if it ever snows again this year!

We didn't get an "after" shot for some reason, but this was a little wagon filled with oversized lego blocks. He loves building, pulling, and pushing things, so he loved it!

He also received this adorable little matching table, chalk board, and nightstand set from my parents later on Christmas morning:

Christmas is about so, so much more than giving and receiving, but it was a lot of fun to watch Little Man receive this year!

Nice post. My son’s 21 this year, and I miss the Christmases when we would open presents together. Your article brought back sweet memories.

Thank you for writing this, and God bless!

About me

Hello and welcome.  It’s been a while.  For Lent this year I decided to fast from the thing that took too much of my attention from what is truly important: Social Media.  Though there are countless amazing benefits to Social Media, after about a month offline so far, there are seemingly just as many negatives.  I never realized how much of my brain had been hijacked by it.  I’ve had so many revelations about how much easier it is to move forward when I’m not constantly reminded of the past.  But I still want to record my family as they grow at this ridiculous speed and, I’m realizing, so many of our family’s memories are here.  Those along with so many of the struggles and stages we’ve worked through.  Maybe in the midst of COVID19 isolation and my kids around me so often, I’m brought back to a time when they were too young for school and with me so often.  Writing here during that time helped make up for the limited adult conversation in my days and the overwhelm provided by my… little treasures 😉 My husband, fur babies, three fiesty kids, and I hereby extend an invitation to visit this little sneak peak into our life. We’re super flawed and broken and there aren’t too many dull moments around here.  And I promise it’s not always as magical as some of my golden hour, sun-soaked images would suggest.  There’s usually too much coffee in my system and we welcome all the prayers.  Come on over if you want to process with me.
