Tracking Baby #2’s First Year: 4 Months Old!

July 28, 2012 By Erika Zane

28 Jul

I can’t believe it’s already been a month since I last did this!  With the blur that was this past month, I’m even happier that I decided to track Little Hiccup’s progress.

We had LH’s four month check-up on Thursday and his stats according to the WHO chart were:

  • 27.75″ long or an avg 8 month old.  As you can see, he’s still about the size of a king size pillow, so I guess that comment wasn’t very accurate last month.  I think I had the pillow further away last time.

  • 17.75″ head circumference or an avg 9 month old
  • 17 lbs or an avg 6 month old.  A big baby but lean; he’s lower than the 25% as far as weight-for-length percentiles

Here’s what happened over the last month:

  • FIRST REAL GIGGLE!

  • FIRST TOOTH!!  Yup, we have early teethers in this family.  It’s been below the surface for months now, but exactly a week ago was visible under his gums (pictured right), which made for a rough 1/2 a week!  It finally poked through on Wednesday, 7/25/12, the day before he turned 4 months!  This is what it looks like today (the small rough bump you see on the bottom, front, left ) :

  • Bald spot across the back of his head.  Hubby calls him “Friar”

  • Feet about the same size as his 2.5 yr old brother’s hands.  Um, I think we might have the human equivalent to a Great Dane puppy on our hands… uh oh!

This is what Little Hiccup can do at four months of age:

  • Sit in his Bumpo

  • Roll over on the ground

  • Resist falling asleep like no one’s business…
  • Interact with me from across the room
  • Play in his Jumparoo (and babble to the dog):

He’s so adorable, (of course I think so ), but I can’t get over how much he and little man (who looks so incredibly grown up) look alike sitting in green chair together. Love them both so much!!

About me

Hello and welcome.  It’s been a while.  For Lent this year I decided to fast from the thing that took too much of my attention from what is truly important: Social Media.  Though there are countless amazing benefits to Social Media, after about a month offline so far, there are seemingly just as many negatives.  I never realized how much of my brain had been hijacked by it.  I’ve had so many revelations about how much easier it is to move forward when I’m not constantly reminded of the past.  But I still want to record my family as they grow at this ridiculous speed and, I’m realizing, so many of our family’s memories are here.  Those along with so many of the struggles and stages we’ve worked through.  Maybe in the midst of COVID19 isolation and my kids around me so often, I’m brought back to a time when they were too young for school and with me so often.  Writing here during that time helped make up for the limited adult conversation in my days and the overwhelm provided by my… little treasures 😉 My husband, fur babies, three fiesty kids, and I hereby extend an invitation to visit this little sneak peak into our life. We’re super flawed and broken and there aren’t too many dull moments around here.  And I promise it’s not always as magical as some of my golden hour, sun-soaked images would suggest.  There’s usually too much coffee in my system and we welcome all the prayers.  Come on over if you want to process with me.
