No Hand-me-downs? Try this…

September 21, 2010 By Erika Zane

Dylan is our first child and the first grandchild on both sides.  Though people have been very generous thus far with gifts and hand-me-downs, Dylan recently outgrew nearly EVERY outfit and pair of pajamas he owns and, of course, our budget is currently maxed out.

“What did you do, Erika?”, you ask?
I got on C-list (I edited this because of all the spamming I keep getting) and looked for people selling baby clothing.

“What did you find?”
I found someone selling over one hundred pieces of 12-18 month clothing (yes, my not even 9 month old is that big) for $50.  Let me tell you, this is how I’m doing things from now on!  For fifty dollars, I received a rubbermaid-like container overflowing with clothing.

If you are new to C-list:
What rock have you been hiding under? j/k
Deal locally and with cash ONLY… NEVER deal with people who want to use checks and mail… he/she is more than likely a con artist.
Be careful about where you meet people…
Do your best to know who you’re dealing with… I usually make sure to speak with the person I am dealing with over the phone so I can be sure, for instance, the young bubbly thirty something mom isn’t a sixty something creepy guy.

Anyway, I just thought this was the best idea I’ve had in a long time and I wanted to share the wealth!  I wish I took a picture of the overwhelming bin of clothing before I unpacked it all, but I didn’t… sorry!  Guess you’ll just have to take my word for it… eek! 😉

I did! Childrens Place and Gymboree stuff, among other nice brands. There was a pair of UVA shorts (I went to VT so Dylan will NOT be wearing those!) and a polyester sleeper which will probably be thrown away, but other than that, tons of really nice clothing and a pair of really cute shoes too!

Yay! That’s awesome, I’m glad you scored such great stuff! Craigslist is wonderful, don’t forget to find your local Goodwill store and find out if there are any consigment sales (MOPS or MOMS or groups like that)

    More pictures, please! 🙂

Cool. You definitely make use of money wisely. You should have include pictures. And I agree with you on phone conversations. It is one of the ways to know if you’re dealing with is a real one.

About me

Hello and welcome.  It’s been a while.  For Lent this year I decided to fast from the thing that took too much of my attention from what is truly important: Social Media.  Though there are countless amazing benefits to Social Media, after about a month offline so far, there are seemingly just as many negatives.  I never realized how much of my brain had been hijacked by it.  I’ve had so many revelations about how much easier it is to move forward when I’m not constantly reminded of the past.  But I still want to record my family as they grow at this ridiculous speed and, I’m realizing, so many of our family’s memories are here.  Those along with so many of the struggles and stages we’ve worked through.  Maybe in the midst of COVID19 isolation and my kids around me so often, I’m brought back to a time when they were too young for school and with me so often.  Writing here during that time helped make up for the limited adult conversation in my days and the overwhelm provided by my… little treasures 😉 My husband, fur babies, three fiesty kids, and I hereby extend an invitation to visit this little sneak peak into our life. We’re super flawed and broken and there aren’t too many dull moments around here.  And I promise it’s not always as magical as some of my golden hour, sun-soaked images would suggest.  There’s usually too much coffee in my system and we welcome all the prayers.  Come on over if you want to process with me.
