I saw the following video on a friend’s blog over a year ago. I just remembered it today as I was thinking about flipping Little Man soon.
He’s only a few months from two and just getting so tall. Plus, he seems uncomfortable on long car rides.
In my quest for the original video, I also found this very informative one. Did you know that in Sweden, people tend to keep their children rear-facing until the age of 3 or 4?
Also, according to the New York Times article “Rear-Facing Car Seats Advised at Least to Age of 2”, in quoting Dr. Alisa Baer, EMT’s call a rear-facing car seat the ‘orphan seat’ because often the child is the only survivor in a bad accident.
That breaks my heart.
Now, I will keep Little man rear facing in his car seat for as long as I possibly can based on the weight and height restrictions on the seat.
I am with you. I have my 27lb, 35 inch daughter who just turned 3 still RF. She will have to flip to FF in January because baby #3 will be born; otherwise I’d leave her longer. PS- the “mommy board experts” say that even if they look uncomfortable, most kids are more comfy RF because their legs don’t dangle. I’m not sure if it’s true, but it makes me feel better. 😉

That’s awesome! I hope I can keep LM rear facing that long. He’s about about 24lbs and 36″ already, but the only restriction for rear facing that I can find on his seat is for weight. Yay for long an lanky! I think (kind of hope) he’s still a long way from 33lbs.
I like that. My legs get cramped in the car too and I always want to put them up on something, so that makes total sense to me. Thanks! 🙂
I’m definitely with you! I plan on keeping Baby rear facing for as long as humanly possible!

I have felt bad for older babies in their car seat rear facing in the past, since they do look cramped and i thought they would enjoy looking forward. But Oh my god, the difference in that video is shocking!! I thought it was just a little bit safer with the rear facing, an extra precaution, but there is a huge difference. Thanks for sharing the video.
