This very long week ended with a bang.
I’m not sure where I should start. From the beginning or the end?
Here’s a quick summary:
I spent three days working on my first custom blog design for another blogger (I’m very excited about it and you can check it out here!). It looks like I found a passion because, apparently, I’m a workaholic. I worked through LM’s nap’s and stayed up until 2AM three nights in a row. So that should also set the scene for you: I’ve been a little cranky. Then, we were supposed to close on our house on Friday, but Tuesday we were informed that the seller will not be accommodating that closing date and refused to close before the 31st. Really? It’s appropriate to inform the buyer of your house that you won’t be out by the closing date less than a week in advance AND you’re going to insist on an extra 1.5 weeks? Then I had a disagreement with a less than cheery, elderly “gentleman”.
Interested in hearing more? Ok 🙂
Let’s start from the beginning. I was excited to find out last week that my sorority sister from college, Jessica, started a blog. She’s one of the sharpest and nicest people I know and has so much personality! She just had a basic Blogger layout, so I asked if she’d be interested in custom design to help build my portfolio. SHE SAID YES! Considering my excitement, her availability, and her amazing communication skills, I was able to get her preferences, build a character, design a site, and implement it all this week. That’s not a turn around time I’m likely to keep up, but it was exciting. It helps that I’m just getting started and the closing date on our new house was moved back, so I was able to devote most of my time to this design. There are also still a few little things to work out, but I’m really happy with it so far and, most importantly, so is Jess. If you or someone you know would be interested in a free custom design on either Blogger or WordPress platforms, please let me know! Jess will also be guest posting for me in the next week or so!
There’s really not much more to talk about with the house. What I said in the summary pretty much covers it all.
As for that elderly gentleman? Here’s the story:
I went to the local Amish Farmer’s market with my mom and Little Man to eat lunch and pick up a few things (namely: BACON). Yes, Alexia, I love bacon while pregnant and, well, always, too! While my mom was at a counter paying for something, LM and I went over to the ATM because they only take cash there. LM was fascinated with the automatic sliding door. So, I was alternating between pulling him away from the doors and trying to collect the money from the ATM, while also trying not to drop everything I had in my hands.
Meanwhile, this man is sitting at a table with his other elderly friends yelling at me to keep my son away from the doors (they weren’t Amish or Mennonite, btw). I ignored him, while I tried to do just that. He decided I wasn’t doing a good enough job or something and came up behind me as I was trying to deal with everything, forcing me to turn away from LM, to inform me that I should keep him away from the doors. Um, you think? So I said, “Thank you, but you’re not really helping me. I’m trying to talk to him.” This was apparently the wrong answer. I don’t want to relive the whole thing, but ultimately I told him if he really wanted to help he should have offered help rather than scolding me. His response was “I can’t touch your child. That’s a lawsuit waiting to happen.” Clearly I wasn’t getting anywhere with this guy. I’m almost 8 months pregnant, so no, I didn’t let it go and yes, I probably should have. The point: I don’t think this guy, or his friends, saw me coming. I think he expected me to quietly take his criticism and obey, like I assume, the housewives of his day would have done. I didn’t and he really didn’t know what to do with me. Poor guy :/
So that’s about it. It’s been an very full week so waking up to SNOW this morning was a welcome event! It’s about time! Here are a few fun pictures I captured of LM’s excitement:
Despite some stress, it’s really been a great week and I’m looking forward to a relaxing weekend. Happy Weekend to you!
Awww man. I want…no NEED some delicious Amish bacon in my life. ASAP. Sounds amazing. 😉
And that old man? Deserved everything he got. If he was paying attention to more than the fact that D was fascinated by the doors he would have seen your pregnant self trying to juggle it all. Men, even the most sensitive among them, will just never understand how tricky it is to do everything while you’re pregnant. Good for you for sticking up for yourself!
I wonder if I could send you some?? It’s SO GOOD!
Thank you. You are so right! There’s just no way for them to understand completely. And that generation wasn’t even allowed in the delivery room, nonetheless expected to run errands with their children, so I can only imagine how little he knows. I mostly didn’t want to let it go because I wanted him to think twice before approaching another woman in a similar situation. That and I’m not great at letting things like that go anyway 🙂
I’m so happy we are going through this together! It’s really nice to talk to someone who can completely relate!
You are such a busy girl and you should be 😉 I’m so happy that everything is falling in place for you as it should. But its awful when you encounter grumpy people, I wouldn’t have bit my tongue for him either. Then again I don’t keep my mouth shut for anyone who disrespects me lol. I can’t stand when people want to stick their 2 cents in where it doesn’t count and are rude for nothing. Anyways, glad that you stuck to your gut and told him like it was. Old or not he should have had respect for you, you were minding your own business just as he should have with his business. {{hugs}}
Also, this isn’t a requirement but I think it would be fun if you would participate 🙂

Thanks Daneilia! Yeah, me neither. Unfortunately, I think I made my mom a little uncomfortable. After we left, though, she said, “I bet he was never even alone with his kids.” So at least she was on my side 🙂
That looks fun! I’ll try to participate next week!
Awe your Mom is too sweet lol. Times have changed and we just can’t conform to “men’s” way of doing things. 🙂

I SO appreciate your raw honest self, Erika. Thank you. : )
Thank *you* for the validation! 🙂
Erika,
I never imagined that this was your weekend when skyping with you today! You were so calm and patient!
It’s hard to believe that the man in the market had such nerve, but it sounds like you handled him quite well!
It was so nice meeting your little one today via skype! I’m really enjoying my blog and love the design. My friend, Christhine, went on and on about it! You really are talented!
Looking forward to continued reading on your blog!
Jess
P.S. Thank you for the sweet words in this post 🙂
